76 an hour 14 hours ago 14 hours ago 14 hours ago The Communications Specialist will be responsible for operating radio, telephone, and computer equipment in the operations center.
Coordinate, process, and dispatch all non-emergency and emergency calls for ambulances and wheelchair van transports.
The TCS will coordinate support agencies to the field units, handle initial field unit concerns and needs, as well as, screen and transfer public and field unit phone calls to the business office and the administrative staff.
Responsibilities:
Receive and process incoming telephone calls regarding emergency and non-emergency ambulance and wheelchair van transports.
Gather and relay information to administrative offices.
Maintain effective communication with departments within Mutual Aid Ambulance Service.
Coordinate company operations with surrounding 911 centers and other call centers.
Determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures.
Relay information and messages to and from emergency scenes, operational EMS field units, and to any other individuals or groups requiring notification.
Continuously monitor the field units' status, all computer screens, and maintain constant communication with filed units via phone and radio.
Read and effectively interpret small-scale maps and pertinent information from a computer screen to determine locations and provide directions to field units.
Effectively and efficiently answer routine inquiries, and refer calls not requiring dispatch to the appropriate departments and agencies.
Question callers to determine their locations, and the nature of their problems to determine type of responses needed.
Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages using provided computer software and phones.
Communicate effectively and efficiently with callers and field units at all times.
Minimum
Qualifications:
High school or equivalent required.
EMT-B or APCO Certifications preferred.
1-2 years of previous dispatch experience within a medical dispatch facility; or any acceptable combination of experience, training and education.
Must be able to speak and understand the English language and be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
Must possess the ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively as a team with co-workers and the general public.
Must possess effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Must possess the technical knowledge to operate a computer at an intermediate skill level and use other office equipment to perform job duties.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require such action.
Must be able to pay close attention to detail and concentrate in a moderate to high stressful working conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Must possess the ability to record, convey and present information to field units, administration, and executive staff.
Must be able to sit and stand intermittently throughout the work day, with occasional walking, twisting, bending, stooping, and overhead reaching.
Dexterity requirements range from fine manipulation of hands and fingers to coordinated movement of feet, legs, and torso to carry out job duties.
Stationary work, with occasional lifting and carrying, of objects with a maximum weight of up to 10 pounds.
